St. Mark’s Summer Fayre – Saturday 9th July

After a pensive first hour at 8pm, would it or wouldn’t it be a wet start!!!!!! to our day. The weather got kinder as time went by, everyone got down to setting up their stalls – Cakes and preserves, Books, Flowers and Plants,Tombola, and Jewelry. Once again, the teamwork that is St.Mark’s went so well, helpers arriving to relieve people for coffee breaks. The atmosphere from us and the general public as always was a time of catching up with old friends, laughter, and generally enjoying raising funds in a relaxed and friendly way. THE GRAND TOTAL 748 pounds and 37 pence. Moncler outlet A BIG […]

Royal Garden Party

To coincide with the Queen’s 90th Birthday celebrations, on Sunday 12th June we held a Royal Garden Party in the Vicarage garden.  It was planned for 3-5pm, and at 2pm the rain was coming down, but lightly, and so we decided to chance it.  The ‘high tea’ refreshments were set out under the marquee, the urn was turned on, the saxophone quartet gathered and warmed up and at 3pm precisely the sun came out.  People brought their garden chairs and set up in the garden, the children (and some adults) had come dressed up in a royal theme, the tea […]

Party In The Square

Churches Together in Hitchin organised its fifth Party in the Square in Hitchin Market Place on Pentecost Sunday, 15 May.  The event began with a service at 11.30, with music, testimonies, including one by John Richardson, and an address by Jeni McQuaid.  The rest of the day was filled with food, drinks, games, music, stalls, a prayer tent and much more, all free, and all giving an idea of what Hitchin’s churches are up to.  The Market Place was packed most of the day and there were some lively conversations among people from different churches and people from no church at all.  It was […]

Compline – Easter 2016

During Easter Week, we met in the church on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings for Compline. We began by reading from Mark’s Gospel, and over the course of the three evenings read the whole Gospel, following the story of the life of Jesus from beginning to end. We drew our evening together with night prayer, which included time for silence and reflection in preparation for Good Friday, and Easter Day. It was a moving time which allowed plenty of space to consider the journey through Easter. Camiseta Real Madrid Baratas

St Mark’s Cake Sale

The day was Saturday 12 March, the time 7.00 am and the weather slightly misty but on the whole a very pleasant morning. My husband Ivan drove me to the Hitchin market place with a car full of goodies to sell. There I met up with friends Joy, Linda and Val and we set up the Cake Stall ready for customers. The time was now 9.00 am and the sun was now appearing through the clouds. Sales were going well and the compliments flowing (they said St. Marks had the best cake stalls!). Everyone was cheerful and we were even […]

GADRA Update – Lent 2016

A wonderful timely  update from GADRA, the focus of last year’s Lent appeal: “Greetings to all at St Marks. GADRA’s year got off to the best possible start, with the news that 109 of the members of the Class of 2015 had obtained Bachelor level passes. In addition, the school had very high overall pass rates, with only 2 individuals (out of the total class of 169) failing to obtain their National Senior Certificate. GADRA Matric School has never obtained results of this quality, and the achievements recorded would not have been possible without the support of generous donors such as […]
