Taizé Service

A Taizé service – What is that? Moncler outlet I’d never heard of Taizé, but as a fairly new member of St. Mark’s I was eager to experience all the church had to offer. And what an experience! The atmosphere of calm and serenity during the times of silence; the encouragement and hope of the words of scripture and prayer; and the uplifting power of the chants as we joined with the choir in praise and petition. Altogether a wonderful opportunity to “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)

We’re hoping to run this lunch each month, but are trialling different times in the month in an effort to find the right day for as many people to come as possible. Our next church lunch will be on Friday 23rd May at 12.30pm. Everyone is very […]

Dedication of the new cross

Following the installation of the long awaited cross on the Bedford Road boundary of the church just before Christmas, we were able to dedicate the cross on Sunday 2nd February. An earlier attempt to dedicate the cross had to be abandoned due to wet weather, but the sun shone for us on 2nd February allowing the children to shovel the stones around the base of the cross to finish the whole project off, before the entire congregation made their way out of church during the final hymn. A dedication prayer (below), written for the occasion, was used, before the opportunity […]

Annual Team Service – 30th June 2013

On Sunday 30th June the four Anglican churches in Hitchin and the churches in St Paul’s Walden and Preston joined together for an open air service at St Paul’s Walden Bury. This is an annual event which is usually held in the St Mary’s Tent at the Rhythmns of the World Festival. However, due to the Festival not happening this year we were invited out to St Paul’s Walden Bury, to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the house and gardens. As the sun shone down on us people gathered from all the churches, bringing rugs and chairs to take up […]
