Jeni’s Ordination – 4th July 2015
Fifty members of St Mark’s went to St Albans Abbey on 4 July to support Jeni as she was ordained a priest in the Church of England. She was one of 17 people who had been tested and trained over the past few years and had now reached this stage in their ministry. In accordance with Anglican tradition, she was ordained by the laying on of hands by bishops and clergy, including Jane as her vicar. It was a memorable occasion – the Abbey was packed for a service full of colour, movement, words and music, but above all the dedication of the ordinands and the prayerful support of their friends, families and colleagues. The sun shone to enhance the joy of the day and now we look forward to being with Jeni on the next stage of her journey in Christian ministry.

From Jeni’s perspective:
“I was so reassured to see so many lovely smiling faces as I walked down the aisle of the Abbey. Last year at my deaconing I only knew a few people from St Mark’s and yet a year on there they all were filling row after row. I felt so supported and upheld by everyone. The service was moving and joyful, and I shed a good few tears! For me the real highlight though was celebrating my first Holy Communion on the Sunday. I just about managed to hold it together until the end of the service… just! I was presented with gift after gift, flowers and a cake. I cannot wait until Advent when I get to wear my beautiful new stole. We rounded off the celebrations with a bring and share lunch in the vicarage gardens in the sunshine. What a wonderful weekend.”
