Nick joined as vicar in November 2020. He grew up in Hitchin, not far from St Mark’s. Following University he spent time as a ‘wandering millennial’, working in a pretty random selection of jobs, including pensions, international development and conferencing. After hitting a low period in his mid-20s (ask him about it, he’s happy to share!) he decided to give God up for Lent. Turns out that wasn’t so easy, and he ended up feeling called to be a Church of England vicar. After training at Ridley Hall (a vicar factory in Cambridge) he worked for three years at a lively and diverse church in inner-city South London. He loves being back in Hitchin now, and finds St Mark’s a loving and supportive place to be.
Nick is a Hitchin Town FC fan (Yeeellows!), but will happily watch any game of football. He claims to be a goalkeeper, but his enthusiasm is greater than his ability. Nick believes that following Jesus is for all of life, not just for Sundays; he thinks doubt is part of faith, not an enemy of it; and he loves talking with people about life’s big questions.
