Here’s a summary of the Christmas services at St Mark’s this year – Hope to see you at some of them!

Sunday 21st December 10.00am Family Communion and Sunday School Nativity

During this service our children will be helping us to begin our Christmas celebrations as they present their annual nativity play, ‘I Spy Christmas’.

Sunday 21st December 6.30pm Service of Lessons and Carols

This is a traditional candlelit service with seven readings from the Old Testament and New Testament as we hear Jesus’ birth being foretold by the prophets and of the events surrounding it. There are a number of carols for everyone to join in as well some pieces which the choir will be singing. For this service, we turn the church the around, so entrance to the church can be gained via the ‘old’ door by the paved area and memorial garden on the Bedford Road side of the church.

Christmas Eve 4.00pm Family Crib Service

Our Crib Service is very informal and very child friendly. During it we sing shortened versions of lots of carols, we hear the story of Christmas, and we finish by singing Jesus ‘Happy Birthday’ with a piece of birthday cake to take home. If you’re worried about children making a noise, please don’t – there will be lots of noise and fun at this service and everyone is very welcome.

Christmas Eve 11.30pm Midnight Communion Service

We join together as we mark the arrival of Christmas Day. This service is candlelit with a sense of expectancy as we prepare for midnight to arrive and proclaim Jesus’ birth.

Christmas Day 8.00am Holy Communion (said)

This service provides a simple and quiet way to begin Christmas Day, maybe before heading off to family for the day and heading back home to enjoy presents and all the festivities of the day.

Christmas Day 10.00am Family Communion

Our final Christmas service takes place at 10.00am on Christmas morning and is a fun, altogether family communion. We sing carols, hear about Jesus’ birth, spend a short time thinking together about Christmas and it’s meaning, before remembering Jesus as we share communion together.
